READ

Psalm 19:12-14

But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

REFLECT

There are dashboard lights that give warnings. Some are obvious what they mean. Others are pretty obfuscated. When the engine light kicks on, what does it mean? It could be any number of things. The light is there to tell you SOMETHING IS WRONG. You could guess or shrug it off and continue driving until the car starts billowing smoke on the highway. Or you can plug in a little device that checks the car’s computer and asks whats wrong. The code it returns will tell you exactly what is going on.

Not paying attention to your inner self is like not paying attention to the dashboard warning lights. God promises to always provide a way out of temptation. We just have to be aware of the warning signs and where the exit is. That little magic box that has all the answers? That’s the Bible for me and you. It will instruct us on what to look for. Sometimes the codes may not be clear, and that's why we gather as a body, join discipleship groups, talk with Godly counselors, and pursue accountability with trusted friends. The warnings of God from scripture will eventually sound like a siren and we will be able to run from temptation, find our escape in the unexplainable peace in the arms of Jesus, and no longer be a slave to sin and the old self. This is the foundation of godly self control.

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Dear God, forgive me for my lack of faith and trust in you. Release me from the triggers of my old self that lead me to sin. Help me to let go of old hurts and offenses against me and forgive those I may hold at fault. Let me experience the joy and hope that comes from being free from old baggage that only You can provide. Bring Your people into my life so we can help each other in our journey to Your Kingdom.
