Psalm 139:23
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Galatians 5:22
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

REFLECT
This Psalm of David is upright and full of great advice: Seek God's insight into your life. But be careful, this is a dangerous prayer. For those who ask God to inspect every nook and cranny of their hearts will have that prayer answered. Think about what that means. This is an invitation to be humbled before God. David knew this as absolute truth. Any study of David's life and family will reveal the folly of not asking God for these heart checkups. David’s sin leads to the tragic decimation of his family from adultery, murder, incest, rebellion, and humiliation. David learned the hard way to let God inspect every aspect of his life and show him where he would fall short of God's will. Fortunately, the second part of this prayer asks for God's wisdom and direction. In spite of David's sin, Solomon rose to bring Israel to a greatness not seen since. God still chose David to be a pivotal part of Jesus Christ's genealogy. David's lack of self control brought him only heartache, but God redeemed David's sin to bring salvation to the world.

God still chose David to be a pivotal part of Jesus Christ's genealogy. David's "triggers" brought him only heartache, but God redeemed David's sin to bring salvation to the world.
Going into this weekend, I encourage you to consider this prayer solemnly. Earnestly seek God's intimate inspection of who you are and who you should be in His kingdom. Pay close attention to what He reveals. They are the keys to the Hope found in Galatians 5:22-23

Heavenly Father, I praise You and thank You for your protections from the triggers of our old, sinful nature. Thank you for the new life You have begun in me through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Guard my heart and my thoughts by reminding me that You have freed me from the chains of sin..
