PHILIPPIANS 2:12-15

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.

REFLECT

Isn’t it refreshing to hear that God is working in you? It’s a work that continues until the day you die. A work that God never tires of. He never asks for perfection! He never asks you to have it all together. He never says you can come to Him when and if. No, He is constantly at work in you, “giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” He gives you this desire as He works in you.

There’s not some magical moment you have to wait for or performance level you have to maintain. He is at work in you, simply because He loves you and longs for you to be a better image barrier of Jesus wherever you go. So instead of thinking, why haven’t I arrived, why not start thinking, “What is God doing in this process? How is He making me more like His Son through this?”

APPLY

Q: What challenges you in this passage of scripture?

Q: How does it motivate you to know that God is at work in you daily, no level of perfection needed?

Q: How does this change your perspective of others who are still being worked on as well?

PRAY

"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy."

Dear Father God, I’m sorry for the times I have gotten stuck in achieving perfection. May I better honor Your name by accepting the process and leaning into the marvelous work You continue to do in my life.
