READ

PSALMS 32:1-5

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,

whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity,

and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away

through my groaning all day long.

For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;

my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah

I acknowledged my sin to you,

and I did not cover my iniquity;

I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,”

and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

REFLECT

Pastor Clayton offered a clear process for dealing with sin, the three C’s: Calling it what it is, Confessing it, and being Covered by God’s grace. The Psalm above summarizes these steps. But is it the steps themselves that hold the power to forgive sin? Of course not. Rather, God wants to come into the light and respond to His righteousness and grace. And there’s a beautiful word the Psalmist uses for how God forgives sin: He “covers” it. He doesn’t ignore it or brush it away. He deals with it head-on through His own sacrifice and mercy. What an amazing and loving God we serve!

APPLY

Q: How does the writer of the Psalm find peace with God?

Q: Which one of the three C’s do you find yourself forgetting? Practice it today in confessional prayer.

Q: When you live in the freedom of confession and walk in the light of God, how will it impact your immediate relationships?

PRAY

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."

Lord, there is a deep temptation to embrace sin by downplaying its severity. But Lord, you have dealt with it through your Son. Keep me from the temptation of taking sin lightly. Rather, help me to walk in the newness of life and in victory today! I love you, God! Amen.
