READ
1 Corinthians 12:15-20
15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
REFLECT
God made each of us in a unique, particular way. A way that benefits the whole body. God is best at doing all things. We are actually not that good at doing things on our own. We do ourselves and those around us a disservice when we second-guess His work, His service, and His gifts. Remind yourself how God is “within each part” and He wants to make Himself known through how we act, live, and think. He made each of us valuable and loves us that much!
APPLY
Q: How did God place the different parts of the body? (see verse 18)
Q: Are you part of the body? Have you been looking for value in your relationships with people/things/idols instead of your relationship with Christ?
Q: How can you encourage others today? Is there anyone you know that doesn’t feel valuable that could use some encouragement?
SING
“You Hold it All Together” by Maverick City Music, Upperroom
PRAY
"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."
Lord, please teach us how to work together as one body. Help us understand each other's differences and purposes. Give us wisdom and patience to appreciate the value of all.
