Acts 3:1-6
3 Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. 2 As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.
4 Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. 6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”
REFLECT
This lame man had been carried to the Temple gates every day for the purpose of begging for money from all the “worshipers” entering the Temple. I must ask myself, “Did the people who carried him there drop him off on their way to worship God? How many times had the same people walked past him every day on their way to worship God, numb and indifferent to his situation? Yet Peter saw more than a beggar. He saw a physical ailment that left this man incapable of earning a living. He saw the actual need and didn’t just pray for the man. He prayed over the man…right then, right there, out loud. Peter expected God to heal the man. The crippled man also had a part in his miraculous healing. He had to believe that God had healed him. He had to respond in faith by getting up and walking.

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. May you keep us aware, Lord, of the physical and spiritual needs of those around us. Bring to our mind those within our circle of influence whom you would have us reach out to, pray over, and witness to.
